　胸膜炎の原因は多岐にわたり，膿胸など迅速な対応を迫られるものも少なくない．診断確定のため胸腔穿刺を必要とする場合がほとんどである．穿刺の必要性，合併症の生じる可能性などについて丁寧な説明が必要である．
