★DCCT（1993年）は1型糖尿病患者の厳格な血糖コントロールが糖尿病細小血管障害の進展を抑制することを示した．

★EDIC（2000年）は早期からの血糖コントロールが糖尿病細小血管障害の進展を抑制することを示した．

★EDIC（2005年）は早期からの血糖コントロールが糖尿病大血管障害の進展を抑制することを示した．
