　肺病変は腫瘍，感染症，アレルギー，自己免疫疾患，先天性疾患，特発性，中毒，薬剤性，内分泌代謝疾患など，実に多彩な原因が存在する．まずは肺病変の有無を胸部X線で確認する．呼吸器症状を伴い肺病変のある患者なら喀痰検査で抗酸菌の有無（特に結核菌）を検査しておくことは呼吸器科へ紹介する前の検査としては有用であると考えられる．
