総論
　われわれが炎症の指標として使っているCRPであるが，CRPとは何かを知っているだろうか？　CRPは“C-reactive protein”の略称で，この“C”はcapsular polysaccharide（C多糖類）を指し，肺炎球菌のC多糖類とこの蛋白が反応することに由来する．CRPは感染，炎症，細胞障害をきっかけに上昇するサイトカイン（主にIL-6，その他にIL-1β，Tumor Necrosis Factor-α）により肝細胞でCRP geneに作用し産生され血中に放出される．CRP産生は感染などの刺激から4〜6時間後から始まり，8時間後ごとに倍々となり36〜50時間後にピークを迎える^1）．
　CRPはただの反応蛋白ではなく，以下の役割をもつ（図1）^2）．
