Point
◎ニューキノロン系抗菌薬（以下，ニューキノロン）はグラム陰性，陽性にかかわらずたいていの一般細菌に対して効果があり，さらに非定型菌や結核などの抗酸菌にも効果がある，非常に広範囲なスペクトラムをもつ抗菌薬である．
◎半減期が長時間であり，内服薬でも腸管吸収性に優れるという使いやすさが大きな売りであったが，乱用される傾向が強く耐性化の問題が非常に深刻である．
◎副作用がほとんどないと誤解されてきたが，近年では大動脈瘤や大動脈解離などの重度な副作用発生のリスクが増大することが判明した．
◎ニューキノロンはたいていの微生物に効果をもつが，第一選択薬として投与をする場面が非常に限られている．つまり，一般日常の診療で第一選択として使用することはほとんどない抗菌薬であると言えよう．
