　非心原性脳梗塞の再発予防には適切な抗血栓薬の使用とリスク因子の厳格な管理が重要で，スタチンを用いた脂質管理も推奨度の高い再発予防治療である．『脳卒中治療ガイドライン2021』では非心原性脳梗塞の再発予防にスタチンを用いた積極的な治療が推奨されており，LDLコレステロール（LDL-C）＜100mg/dLを目標とする．一方，冠動脈疾患を合併している虚血性脳卒中の再発予防に対してはLDL-C＜70mg/dLを目指すことが推奨されている．
