　Ependymomas are the most common intramedullary tumors. Incidence of those tumors, in leading literatures, were 7 (42%) among 254 classified gliomas by report of Bailey and Cushing³⁾ (1926), 16 (28%) among 566 gliomas reported by Bailey⁴⁾ (1927), 21 of the tumors (42%) in 51 intramedullary cord tumors investigated carefully by Kernohan, Woltman and Adson¹²⁾, and more recently the follow up study of intramedullary tumors by Chigasaki and Pennybacker⁷⁾ listed 36 cases (28.1%) in 128 verified intramedullary tumors of the spinal cord.
