16SrRNA遺伝子配列を利用した菌種同定

　リボソームRNA(ribosome RNA，rRNA)遺伝子は，塩基配列を基に生物の系統分類の指標として用いられる．細菌を対象とした場合，rRNA遺伝子配列がわかれば，インターネット上のデータベースを利用することで細菌検査の経験がなくても，容易に属レベルもしくは菌種レベルでの菌名の推定が可能である．なかでも16S rRNA遺伝子は，菌種の登録の際に遺伝子配列の登録が義務付けられており，各菌種の遺伝子配列データが豊富に存在するため，菌種の同定に利用される．形態学的検査と生化学的性状検査では菌種の同定が困難な場合に，16S rRNA遺伝子配列を用いた検査が実施されるようになり，今までに報告されてこなかった菌種による感染症が報告されるようになってきた．
