ブドウ球菌の産生するPanton-Valentine Leukocidin（PVL）の検出方法

Panton-Valentine Leukocidin（PVL：leucocidinとも記載される）の細胞毒性は多核白血球，単球，マクロファージを標的とし，その他の細胞はほとんど傷害を受けない．また，動物種で感受性が異なり，ウサギとヒト細胞は感受性を示すが，マウス細胞は比較的耐性がある．平素，健康なヒトでの重篤なメチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌（methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus，MRSA）感染，市中感染型MRSA（community-acquired MRSA，CA-MRSA）が近年注目されており，これらCA-MRSAを特徴付けるのがPVL産生であるとされている．わが国でも皮膚・軟部組織感染症の外来患者，特に癤，癰由来のMRSAでPVL陽性が多いことや，散発的ながら敗血症や壊死性肺炎などの重症例が報告されている．しかし，CA-MRSAの病原因子については，将来的なワクチン開発を念頭に置いて，PVLと溶血毒Hla（α毒素）の2つの研究についてホットな議論が展開されている．
