Summary

　LancefieldでB群に分類される溶血性レンサ球菌で，主にStreptococcus agalactiaeのことを指す．新生児侵襲性感染症では主に母子感染が関係した伝播様式により髄膜炎や敗血症を引き起こすことが知られており，肺炎球菌（Streptococcus pneumoniae）やインフルエンザ菌（Haemophilus influenzae）type bのワクチンの接種が小児で定期化してからは，小児の髄膜炎例の原因菌としては本菌が最多となった．そのため，妊婦検診でStreptococcus agalactiaeの検出を行う臨床的意義が高くなってきている．成人では糖尿病患者を中心に敗血症や皮膚軟部組織感染症の患者が発生しているが，A群溶血性レンサ球菌（GAS）やSDSEと異なり劇症化する症例は少ない．血清型を調べることにより病原性の高い菌かどうかも判明するため，疫学調査の目的もあるが病原性の確認に微生物検査は必要である．
