すでに本特集の他稿にて「アニマルセラピー」については述べられているので，本稿ではそれ以外の人間と動物がかかわるところに存在する医療福祉のトピックをいくつか取り上げ，最後にアニマルセラピーの日本と欧米の取り組みの現状について触れることにする．

ペットロス

　ペットを医療の補助として用いる「アニマルセラピー(AAA/T)」の理論的土台にはペット(companion animal)との絆(human-animal bond)があり，ゆえにそれを失うときに，われわれは喪失体験を味わう．喪失反応には様々あり，特に喪失の対象が子どもや配偶者についての研究は進んでいるものの，ペットに関しては欧米と比較すると日本ではまだ皆無に近い^1,2)．
