① 口腔ケアをインフルエンザ予防に繋げる

口腔ケア

　デイケアに通う要介護高齢者に対する歯科衛生士による継続した口腔清掃を中心とした口腔ケアが，2003/2004年の冬期間，インフルエンザ発症を抑えた．その期間における高齢者に対するインフルエンザワクチンの効果は低かった．本稿では，なぜ口腔ケアがインフルエンザ発症を抑えたのかについて，検証した事柄を中心に解説する．

　広義に使われる「口腔ケア」とは，口腔の持っているあらゆる働き，すなわち摂食，咀嚼，嚥下，構音，審美性・容貌の回復，唾液分泌機能などを助けることをいう．狭義の口腔ケアは，口腔衛生管理に主眼をおく一連の口腔清掃と義歯の清掃などをいう．また口腔ケアは，口腔衛生管理に主眼をおく器質的口腔ケアと，機能面に重点をおく機能的口腔ケアに分けられる．さらに，口腔ケアに指向性，方向性をもたせる考え方もある．
