妊娠期の歯周病

　妊娠期は，女性にとって，新しい命を宿し，育む，大切なライフステージです．1965(昭和40)年から2005(平成17)年までの日本における合計特殊出生率(15～49歳の女性が，一生に産む子どもの概数)の推移¹⁾を図1に示します．日本では，1975(昭和50)年に2.00を下回ってから減少の一途をたどっており，2005年には1.26と最小値を示しました．このままでは，日本の人口は減り続けると危惧されています．

　近年，妊娠期の歯周病が早産や低体重児出産と関連があるとの報告が相次いでいます．本稿では，これらの報告をわかりやすく概説するとともに，女性が安心して子どもを産み，育てられるための口の健康情報も提供します．
