歯科・口腔領域の研究成果と対策および無煙たばこ対策

　歯科・口腔領域では，喫煙に関連する疫学研究が遅れたことや，歯科職種がどのようにたばこ対策に関わるかといった指針が十分に示されていないことから，喫煙と歯周病の関係についての国民の知識は依然として低い(図1)．今，口の中で用いられる無煙たばこが世界的な論争となっている．議論の中に日本も巻き込まれつつあるが，公衆衛生分野の専門家の無煙たばこの知識は乏しく，情報が行きわたっていない．たばこ規制条約により，燃焼たばこの規制が世界的に厳しくなっている中で，大手の国際たばこ会社が，燃焼たばこの害を低減する可能性を持つスウェーデン産の無煙たばこに自社ブランド名をつけ，世界各国で販売を展開し始めた．日本では，ガムの中にたばこの葉を混ぜた噛み用のたばこ製品が世界で初めて首都圏で試験発売された．2003年秋のことである．
