高齢者の呼吸器科疾患

はじめに

　わが国における高齢者の人口は確実に増加している．2011年は65歳以上の高齢者人口は2,980万人で，全人口の23.3%に達し，その割合は2015年には26%になると予測されている．人口の高齢化に伴い，慢性閉塞性疾患(chronic obstructive pulmonary disease:COPD)や誤嚥性肺炎などの呼吸器疾患が増加している．これは肺が外界に開放しており，喫煙や大気汚染による外的影響と，加齢に伴う肺の老化が，その呼吸器疾患の発症に大きく関与しているためである．

　本稿では，呼吸器の加齢変化と高齢者に多い呼吸器疾患の代表であるCOPDと肺がん，肺炎，喘息について概説する．
