はじめに

　運動は骨格筋の活動によって遺伝子や細胞レベルの様々な活性化をもたらし，全身の機能に影響を及ぼす．適切な運動を継続的に楽しみながら実施できれば，心身両面におけるフィットネスの維持・向上，疾病の発症予防効果，非薬物療法としての治療的効果等が期待できる．しかし一方では，体調や体力を踏まえない不適切な運動実施によって健康を損なう危険性もはらんでいる．

　公衆衛生従事者は，各種の疾病予防教室や介護予防教室，健診後の保健指導等において，運動を推奨することがあるだろう．内藤¹⁾が述べているように，「公の立場から運動を奨励する場合は，介入故に生じうる有害事象を常に意識し，安全配慮とリスクマネージメントに留意しなければならない」．本稿では，主に中高年者を対象とした運動において，公衆衛生従事者が知っておくべきリスク管理対策としてのメディカルチェックと運動処方の概要について解説する．
