世界における認知症対策の動向

　世界は急速に高齢化している．2050年には，60歳以上の人口は20億人を超えると予想される¹⁾(図1)．欧州と日本が高齢化の先頭を走るが，中でも日本は約3人に1人が60歳以上(2013年に32.3%)と最も進んでおり，この比率は2050年には42.7%に達すると予測される¹⁾．前世紀の健康政策の成功が健康長寿実現に貢献したが，同時に認知症を含めた非感染性疾患の増加をもたらしている．

　認知症は，慢性の器質的な脳機能障害であり，行動・認知・感情の障害を特徴とする．現在のところ，治癒または進行を止める治療法はなく，高齢期での罹患率も高いため，高齢者で大きな疾病負荷をもたらす疾患の一つとなっている²⁾．特に低中所得国においては，今後数十年で認知症患者の急速な増加が見込まれているが，これに対応する人的および経済的資源が限られており，今から適切な対応をとる必要がある．
