食品安全管理は国境を越えて

　食品の安全性をめぐる事件の報道は絶えることがない．農業物や食品の貿易が盛んになったおかげで，消費者が安く豊富な食品を入手することができるようになった一方で，いくつもの国境を跨ぐようになった生産から消費までの長大な供給鎖のどこかが破綻すると，安全影響は瞬く間に遠方の国に及ぶ．ある食品汚染事件が報じられる前に，影響がすでに複数の国に達していることは普通である．
　全球化(グローバリゼーション)が進んだ現在にあって，自国の食品安全管理体制の強化に心を砕くのは各国政府の責務であるが，それだけでは足りない．国内の消費者の健康を守るためには，他国の食品安全に関心を向け，必要な援助や投資を差し向ける必要がある．
