ザンビアの人々の生活習慣病に向き合う

はじめに
　「アフリカの生活習慣病」といっても，イメージが湧かない人も多いのではないだろうか．脳卒中，心疾患，糖尿病などの生活習慣病を含む非感染性疾患(non-communicable diseases:NCDs)は，食習慣・生活習慣が関係することから，先進国の課題と思われがちである．しかし，実際は，世界全体で，毎年1500万人が70歳未満でNCDsにより死亡しており，その「早すぎる」死亡の約85%は，アフリカ地域を含む低中所得国で起こっているのである¹⁾．本稿をきっかけとして，読者の方々に，アフリカ地域のNCDsの課題について関心を持っていただけるとうれしく思う．
