眼圧測定の原理と機種の比較

眼圧測定の試み

　いわゆる急性緑内障に関してはHippocratesも言及しているが，緑内障で眼圧が高いという記載は10世紀のアラビア人外科医によるものが最初である。当初は眼球の張力ないしは硬さと認識されていた。緑内障の症候として眼球が堅いことを1823年に英国のGuthrieが記載している。この頃から眼圧の測定が広く行われるようになったと考えられる。

　眼圧とは前房水の圧である。直接前房内にセンサーを挿入するマノメトリーのように前房水圧を測定できれば，正確に前房水圧を知ることができる。しかし臨床の場面では当然そのような方法をとることは現実的ではない。したがって眼球壁を介してわれわれは眼圧を測定することが前提となるが，この前提こそが眼圧にかかわる問題をより複雑にしている。
