視野進行評価とは

　緑内障診療において，視野の進行評価は必須のプロセスである。繰り返し行った視野検査の結果から視野障害の進行を捉えるということは，すなわち緑内障という疾患そのものの進行を，患者の視機能に直結した視野を指標にして客観的に評価することである。

　一定の治療の行われている緑内障眼では，多くの場合，視野障害は数年～数十年という期間に緩徐な進行を示し，その進行を可及的に遅延もしくは停止させることが治療の目標になる。緑内障の進行を評価する手段は，視野検査に限られるわけではない。自覚的検査である視野検査の結果に頼らず，緑内障性視神経症の悪化をより客観的な方法で捉えるために，光学的機器により視神経乳頭形状や網膜神経線維層厚の変化を経時的に評価することが可能となっており，将来的には視野障害の進行評価以上の有用な方法になる可能性も期待されている。
