はじめに

　日本における緑内障に関する疫学調査として，1988～1989年に現地調査の行われた全国7地区共同調査^1）と，2000年以降に現地調査が行われた多治見スタディ^2～4）と久米島スタディが代表である。本項では，すでに緑内障有病率に関する解析の終了した多治見スタディデータを日本の緑内障疫学調査の成績として扱い，日本と諸外国の緑内障疫学調査の結果の比較を行う。本号には多治見スタディと久米島スタディがそれぞれ独立の項目として別に立てられているため，一部で重複することをお断りする。
