粘弾性物質の進歩

はじめに

　粘弾性物質は，保険適用の有無を別として，近年の眼科領域の手術においては欠かせない薬剤アイテムとしての存在となっており，最近ではOVD（ophthalmic viscosurgical device：眼科手術補助粘弾性物質）と呼ばれるようになっている。また21世紀に入り，含有物や濃度の違いよって性質の異なるOVDが登場した。使用のねらいは空間保持，組織の保護，組織の移動，癒着剝離，操作時の潤滑剤などであり，手術方法にも工夫が広がり，さまざまな進歩をもたらし，白内障手術の安全性が向上した^1,2）。

　本項ではOVDとしての粘弾性物質の特性と白内障手術における有効な使用法について述べる。
