　白血病阻害因子（leukemia inhibitory factor：LIF）は，マウス胚性幹（embryonic stem：ES）細胞の未分化能維持，多能性保持に必須のサイトカインとして使用されて以来，そのメカニズムの詳細な検討がなされた^1,2）。本稿ではLIFの基礎知識およびその役割をまとめた。
