はじめに

　加齢黄斑変性（age-related macular degeneration：以下，AMD）とは，先進国の50歳代以上における失明原因の首位を占める疾患であり，近年は高齢化にしたがいますます増加傾向にある。

　AMDは大別すると黄斑部に網脈絡膜萎縮を生じる萎縮型と，黄斑部に新生血管を生じ滲出性変化を生じる滲出型とに分類される。この中でも臨床上特に問題となる視力障害をきたすのは滲出型AMDであり，その主な病態は脈絡膜新生血管（choroidal neovascularization：以下，CNV）と，それに伴う滲出性変化および網膜神経細胞の変性である。
