要旨　慢性前立腺炎は，一般にはNIH分類の慢性細菌性前立腺炎（chronic bacterial prostatitis）と慢性前立腺炎/慢性骨盤内疼痛症候群（chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome）を指す。NIH分類とNIH Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Indexの導入により，慢性前立腺炎に対する各種治療法の科学的評価が始まった。いまだ慢性前立腺炎の有効で確実な治療法の確立には至っていないものの，徐々にエビデンスが得られており，その成果が実際の臨床の場に反映されるものと期待されている。
