癌化学療法の基本理念と副作用

要旨　抗癌剤は他の薬剤と比較すると治療域が狭く，化学療法によりさまざまな副作用が出現し重篤となることも稀ではない。したがって，化学療法を実施するためには化学療法の目的を正確に認識し，患者本人と認識を共有したうえで，適応を判断する必要がある。化学療法の目的は，対象となる癌腫，病期，患者の状態などにより大きく異なり，期待される効果と予測される毒性のバランスで化学療法を実施するか否かが決定される。この決定にあたって，医師は予後を含めた正確な情報を患者に提供するとともに，患者本人の判断を可能な限り尊重すべきである。医師と家族のみの判断で，化学療法の適応を決定するようなことは避けるべきである。
