要旨　慢性前立腺炎/慢性骨盤痛症候群（CPPS）の概念の中に，すでに排尿機能症状，性機能に関する症状が包含されていることから，これらの互いへの相関は容易に予想されるところであり，実際に多くの臨床的・疫学的研究からその相関関係が明確になりつつある。各症状が互いに関連するという事実は，逆の観点から論ずると，それぞれの症状を有する患者群がクリアカットに判別できないことをも意味している。一症状（例えば下部尿路症状）に特異的と考えられる治療法の，ほかの症状（CPPS症状，性機能症状）への有効性を示すエビデンスの蓄積は複雑な相関関係の傍証であろう。
