要旨　わが国には現在，数万種類の医薬品が存在するといわれるが，大半の薬剤が腎臓を経由した尿を排泄経路としているため，すべての薬剤が腎障害を惹起し得るといっても過言ではない。薬剤性腎障害の最も重篤な症候は急性腎障害（急性腎不全）である。薬剤による腎障害の治療は，原因薬剤の投与を中止することであるが，腎障害の原因薬剤を中止することにより，本来の治療は中断を余儀なくされ，治療効果の減弱や入院期間の延長にもつながる。そのため薬剤の投与には注意を払う必要があり，脱水や併用薬剤を考慮して急性腎不全の発症を予防するとともに，薬剤投与後は，腎機能や尿所見の推移を注意深く観察する必要がある。
