要旨　ヒトは青壮年期には就寝中に排尿のために起きることはほとんどない。これは睡眠中に腎での尿産生量が減少するとともに，膀胱での蓄尿量が増加するためである。逆に小児期の夜尿症や高齢者の夜間頻尿では夜間の尿産生量の増加や機能的膀胱容量の低下が認められる。時計遺伝子が形成する概日時計（circadian clock）の研究の進歩とともに，生体の日内変動現象の多くが時計遺伝子による分子的現象として解明されており，腎・膀胱では尿産生や機能的膀胱容量の日内変動に寄与している。本稿ではヒトおよび齧歯類の排尿日内リズムについて最近の分子時間生物学の進歩と関係付けながら臨床的および行動生理学的知見と展望を概説する。
