ここがポイント
◉精巣炎単独はまれで，通常はウイルス性（ムンプスウイルスが最多）である．
◉細菌感染症の場合，精巣上体炎を併発する（精巣上体・精巣炎）．
◉精巣炎・精巣上体炎の原因は，患者年齢によって異なる．小児，高齢者では尿路感染症（大腸菌，緑膿菌），性的活動期の若年者では性行為感染症（淋菌，クラミジア・トラコマチス，梅毒）が考えられる．また，膀胱癌術後の患者ではBCG膀胱内注入療法が原因となる．
◉若年者で最も重要な鑑別診断は，精巣捻転症である．
