以前の常識

・20mmを超える腎結石治療は，経皮的腎砕石術（PNL）単独，あるいはPNLと体外衝撃波（ESWL）との併用で行った．

・経尿道的腎砕石術（URS : RIRS）は，20mm未満の腎結石で適応があるとされていた．

現在の常識

・20mmを超える腎結石でも，経尿道的アプローチのRIRSが適応となる．

・大きなサンゴ状結石は，RIRSとPNLとの併用手術ECIRSが主流となっている．
