1　近代の大腸外科の発展

　大腸手術の歴史は古く，Litterの腸閉塞に対する大腸の開放による減圧術に始まる（1710年）．それ以降，18世紀の大腸手術はほとんどが腸瘻によって治療がされていたことがPillore（1776年），Fine（1797年）らの報告で窺われる．

　大腸癌に対する最初の切除と吻合は19世紀半ばにReybard（1844年）^1）によって行われ，端々吻合で成功した．しかし，縫合不全の危険性が高かったため，Lembert，Halsted（1826年）らは吻合法の改善を検討し，安全な腸管吻合を確立すべく努力した．Micklicz（1898年）^2）は大腸癌イレウスにおける切除と救命という目的を果たすため，腫瘍を含む腸管を腹腔外に出して腫瘍を切除し，その後，二期的に腸瘻を閉鎖する方法を開発した．
