◆食道癌の術後5年全生存率はStage 0 77.8％，Stage Ⅰ 74.4％，Stage Ⅱ 49.5％，Stage Ⅲ 30.7％，Stage ⅣA 14.8％，Stage ⅣB 11.5％である．

◆JCOG9204は，pStage Ⅱ，ⅢでR0，R1手術が行われた症例を対象にし，術後化学療法が手術単独に対して5年無再発生存率で45％対55％（p＝0.037）と有意に良好であった．JCOG9907は，cStage Ⅱ，Ⅲ（T4は除く）を対象にし，5年全生存率で38.4％対60.1％（p＝0.013）と，術前化学療法が術後化学療法に対して有意に良好であった．

◆JCOG9906は，Stage Ⅱ，Ⅲ進行食道癌に対する放射線化学療法同時併用療法である．3年生存率45％，5年生存割合37％であり，JCOG9907による外科切除の成績と比較すると不良であった．
