Will Rogers現象―精密検査で治療成績が向上するか

素朴な疑問

　がんの治療成績は時代とともに向上しており，その理由として早期発見や治療法の進歩，特に手術手技や抗腫瘍薬の進歩が挙げられる．ところが，がんは治療の内容と関係なく，精密検査をするだけでステージ別の治療成績が向上するという（Will Rogers現象）．本当にそんなことがあるのだろうか．
