喫煙患者の手術—禁煙で術後合併症が減るか

素朴な疑問
　喫煙は心臓病・脳卒中・肺疾患（COPD）の危険因子であり，喫煙者の手術は死亡率が高い．喫煙者は易感染性で創傷治癒がわるく，喫煙者が多い肺がんや食道がんの手術は肺炎や吻合不全の頻度が高い．外科医は喫煙者に術前の禁煙を厳しく指示するが，禁煙で術後合併症が減るのだろうか．1か月以上の禁煙で肺切除や食道切除の肺合併症が減るのだろうか．
