人工膵臓の役割

はじめに
　近年，欧米のみならず日本においても，生活習慣と社会環境の変化に伴って糖尿病罹患率の上昇が指摘されており，高齢化による耐糖能異常と相重なって，1型，2型糖尿病だけでなく血糖管理を必要とする患者数は急激に増加してきている^1）．
　このような様々な患者背景とともに，多岐にわたる新規糖尿病薬が開発されており，糖尿病治療が多様化してきているが，より生理的な血糖制御を行うためには至適なインスリン分泌が必要とされる．そのためには，血糖計測，その情報処理，制御，そしてインスリン・グルカゴン分泌を機械的に構築したシステムが必要とされ，人工膵臓の開発・発展に期待が寄せられる^2,3）．
　本稿では，特に外科領域における人工膵臓の果たす役割について概説する．
