　The long and winding road……．
　私にとって世界の肝臓外科との最初の出会いは，1994年に第111回ドイツ外科学会総会出席旅費給付が決定した時に始まった．ハノーバーのRudolf Pichlmayer教授にお会いし，大腸癌肝転移に対する下大静脈合併左三区域切除とリング付きゴアテックス人工血管による下大静脈再建を拝見し，大きな刺激を受けたことを記憶している．その後，ベルリンのPeter Neuhaus教授を訪ね夏休みに短期留学し，脳死肝移植のドナー摘出に参加し，Neuhaus教授が行う積極的な拡大肝胆膵手術を見学していた．当時はドイツの肝胆膵外科が，圧倒的に世界をリードしていたように思う．
