骨粗鬆症の疫学

はじめに

　人口構成の高齢化現象の結果，日本における骨粗鬆症の有病者数は徐々に上昇してきている．高齢化社会の進行とともに慢性疾患の著しい増加が起こるが，このような慢性疾患に伴う最大の問題点は，むしろ生命予後を悪化させることではなく，日常生活動作（activities of daily life : ADL）や生活の質（quality of life : QOL）が低下することである．骨粗鬆症は骨折の原因となることから高齢者のQOLの低下をもたらし，その結果，深刻な社会問題を誘発する．
