若年女性のやせ願望の実態とその問題点

はじめに

　現在のわが国では，若い女性のやせ者の増加は，男性における肥満者の増加とならび社会的な問題となっている．国民健康栄養調査^1）では，20代女性のやせ者（BMI＜18.5）の割合はほかの年代や男性と比べても高く，1995年以降20％以上が続いている（図1）．最近では，30代女性のやせ者も増加しており，平成20年度の同調査では16.8％がやせと判定された．一方，肥満女性（BMI＞25）の割合は20代，30代でそれぞれ7.7％，11.8％と，男性の14.6％，29.5％と比較してかなり低い．それにもかかわらず，20代女性の約40％，30代女性では半数以上が自身の体型を「太っている」または「少し太っている」と評価しており，実際に体重を減らそうとしている者の割合も半数近いことからも，若い女性の体型認識のずれややせ願望の強さがうかがえる．本稿では，若い女性のやせ願望の現状や，やせ願望を引き起こしている因子について検討したい．
