●女性の肛門性器疣贅（AGW）の多くはHPV6型，11型感染による尖圭コンジローマであり，年間約2,000人の女性に発症している．20〜30％は3か月以内に自然消退するとされているが，多発性病変や再発を繰り返す難治性症例も存在する．

●AGWにかかった女性はさまざまな心理的かつ性的なダメージを受ける．

●尖圭コンジローマを有する妊婦から出産した児が小児期になって発症する若年発症再発性呼吸器乳頭腫症（JORRP）も難治性疾患であり，産科的対応に課題がある．

●4価HPVワクチンの接種によってAGWやJORRPの発症が有意に減少することが証明され，特に接種率50％以上の地域における効果は大きく，ワクチンを接種していない男性に対する集団予防効果まで示されている．
