●エクオールは特定の腸内細菌によって大豆イソフラボンより代謝され,エストロゲン様作用を示す.

●エクオールを産生できるかどうかは尿中のエクオール濃度を測定することで判定できるが,個々の産生能は経時的に変化することが明らかとなった.エクオール産生の変化には,エクオール産生菌の有無や大豆製品の摂取量だけでは説明できず,他の要因が関与している可能性がある.

●近年,エクオールがさまざまな疾患に対して予防的に作用する可能性が指摘されている.しかし,エクオールと疾患との関連性に関する検証はまだ十分ではなく,精度の高い検証結果の蓄積が望まれる.
