〔SUMMARY〕　メタボリックシンドロームの治療は動脈硬化性疾患の予防を目標に据えたものであるが，各危険因子の源流に存在する内臓脂肪蓄積の解消が重要となる．内臓脂肪蓄積に引き続くアディポサイトカイン，特にアディポネクチンの分泌異常が直接・間接的に動脈硬化に影響を及ぼしていることが判明しており，現在その測定系も確立している．アディポネクチンを疾患マーカーとして早期に捉え，また治療標的として臨床応用することが重要である．〔臨床検査　49：1675-1681，2005〕
