〔SUMMARY〕 活性酸素やフリーラジカルによる酸化ストレスは,老化,動脈硬化,癌など多くの疾患に関与している重要な因子である.さらに現代は,様々な種類のストレスがわれわれの身辺を取り囲んでいる.このような心理・社会的ストレスによっても生体のホメオスタシスを乱され,特に細胞内レドックス制御の破綻により酸化ストレスを生じ,病態発現の引き金となっている可能性が高い.そこで,ヘム代謝の研究過程で開発した抗ビリルビン抗体を用いて,酸化ストレス時に生じるバイオピリン(ビリルビン酸化生成物質)を“酸化ストレスマーカー”として利用し,その生理学的および臨床的意義をストレスの関連した分野,例えば外科,循環器内科,精神神経内科,医薬品開発と市販後医薬品調査など様々な領域で検討している.〔臨床検査 49:145-152,2005〕
