 子宮頸癌の発症因子であるhuman papillomavirus(HPV)は,現在100種類以上が知られているが,高リスク型と低リスク型に分類され,高リスク型の持続感染が頸癌の発生に密接に関連する.頸癌検診の際,高リスク型HPVの有無をチェックすることは,前癌病変の管理や治療方針の決定に非常に役立つ.本稿では子宮頸癌発生の自然史におけるHPV感染の意義,集団検診や術後再発予知におけるHPV-DNA検査の有用性等について,文献的考察を交えて概説する.
