　アンチエイジング(抗加齢)医学とは，これまで医学が対象としていた「病気の治療」から，「健康な人のさらなる健康」を目指すプラスの医療で，「病的な加齢」を予防する医療である．今回の研究で，噛むことを含めた口腔機能を生かすことが病的加齢の原因である酸化ストレスを減弱させるという知見を得た．また，この口腔機能低下を招く口腔疾患である歯周病と顎関節症における酸化ストレスの関連性についても報告した．今後これらの疾患を防ぐ「歯の健康」を目指すアンチエイジング歯科医学を実践し，アンチエイジング医学に貢献する口腔内科学へ発展させたい．
