　腎移植には生体腎移植と死体腎移植がある．腎移植後に良好な移植腎機能が発現することが基本で，移植された腎臓を介した感染症や悪性腫瘍の伝播も許されない．また，生体腎移植ドナーが腎提供後に腎機能障害や腎機能低下に繋がる合併症を起こすことは回避されなければならない．そのためには，十分なドナー評価，適切な検査が行われる必要がある．一方，レシピエントは，移植手術を安全に受けることができ，腎移植後の免疫抑制療法を続けられることが，腎移植後のQOLやADL向上の基本である．そのためには移植前の評価，検査が不可欠である．
