大血管障害

　糖尿病および糖尿病予備軍患者は増加の一途をたどり，2007年の国民栄養調査では2,200万人を超える勢いである．糖尿病患者の生命予後にとって大血管障害をいかに抑制するかが重要となる．様々な大規模介入試験により大血管障害を抑制するためには重症低血糖の危険性のある厳格な血糖管理よりも，糖尿病あるいはその前段階であるIGTに対し可能な限り早期に介入し治療開始することが重要である．さらに血糖のみならず血圧，脂質，肥満，喫煙といった多くの危険因子を総合的かつ厳格に管理することが大切である．
