■c-kit遺伝子産物であるKITはGISTの95％以上に発現しており，その発現を免疫染色でチェックすることはGISTの診断に極めて重要である．

■c-kit遺伝子の機能獲得性突然変異はGISTの約85％に認められ，その検索はGISTの確定診断および治療方針決定に重要な役割を果たす．

■KITの発現はマスト細胞性腫瘍・精上皮腫・悪性黒色腫・嫌色素性腎細胞癌・唾液腺の腺様囊胞癌などでみられるが，診断的価値は必ずしも高くない．

■c-kit遺伝子変異はマスト細胞性腫瘍・精上皮腫・悪性黒色腫などでも認められるが，現状では診断・治療に対する意義は低い．
