はじめに
　「早期介入」は近年において医療全般における最重要事項であると，目や耳にする活字やニュースから日々痛感させられる。当初は少なからず批判もあった精神医療における早期介入，中でも統合失調症をはじめとする精神病における早期発見と早期治療は，研究的な段階を経て，今や日常臨床におけるケアやサービスになりつつあると言える。その歴史を紐解くと，1984年のFalloonらによる英国バッキンガム・プロジェクト，1992年の豪州Early Psychosis Prevention and Intervention Centre(EPPIC)創設などに始まり，1996年の国際早期精神病学会(International Early Psychosis Association；IEPA)の設立を経て急速に発展した。本邦においても，1996年に日本精神障害予防研究会が発足し，2008年に日本精神保健・予防学会と改称し，そして2014年11月にアジア初の第9回国際早期精神病学会が東京で開催された¹⁰⁾。
